Famous Person Letter

 

Introduction

This project concludes the block letter unit.  You are to locate an address for a famous person.  You must choose school-appropriate celebrities.  Musicians are not allowed.  Suggested celebrity categories are actors, sports stars, politicians, writers, or poets.  

Select a celebrity that is of interest to you.  You will later research and compose a report on this person.

Process

1.  Write a one-page letter to a celebrity.
2.  Create a letterhead for the school.
3.  Include all letter parts.
4.  Use block format and open punctuation.
5.  The body must contain 3 paragraphs.
6. Paragraph 1 should introduce yourself and why you are writing.
7.  Paragraph 2 should request special information about this person's childhood and/or career.
8. Paragraph 3 should ask for information or a letter be sent to you at the address shown in the letterhead.
9.  Thank them for a response.
10. Explain you are writing for a school project.
11. Print and sign your name.
12.  Prepare an envelope. Follow USPS mail guidelines.

Evaluation

Proofread your letter very carefully.  Your grade is based primarily upon proper letter format.  Minor points will be docked for typographical errors.  When the letters are graded and handed back, you may revise/reprint the letter and mail them.
