Central's first graders took an amazing field trip to Nebraska City's Arbor Day Farms!  There was so much for us to do in one day...

We just arrived at Arbor Day Farms.

Our guide Ronda tells us about the apple trees.

We listen with interest.

This is the store.

This is the huge refrigerator where apples and cider are kept.

It is kept at a chilly 34 degrees.

BRRRRRR!!!

These were a few of the machines that weigh or measure apples.

On our way to the 50 foot high tree house!

Cool sumac trees along the way.

We got to follow different tracks in the path and then peek to see what animal made the track.

Exploring on the trail.

Ronda points out a milkweed that the monarch lays her eggs on.

Hello Mrs. Comer's group!

This station is where we listened to different bird calls.

We have to listen very closely.

This station was using our sense of smell...some smelled better than others!

Ryan gets a big sniff!

So does Adian.

Mrs. Klaumann wonders what that smell is, a pine tree????

This is the bridge that take us to the exploring cabin.

There were a lot of cool things to discover in here.

Here we go...up, up and up to the top of the 50 foot tree house!!!

Boy, that's a long way down!

That's 1044.5 feet above sea level!!!

We finished that tour with a sample of apple cider!

It was so cold and refreshing!

Then it was onto lunch!

We really worked up an appetite!

After lunch, it was onto the mansion!

Donovan poses by a huge elephant ear leaf!

This is the north side of the mansion. We were in total awe!!!

This is the east side and the entrance to the mansion.

Half of the first graders wait to see the movie about the mansion.

Completely amazed by the massive size of the home.

This was a unique stained glass window in the dining room.

The bowling alley in the basement was the favorite of many!!

The grounds around the mansion were equally impressive.

We are getting hot, tired and really thirsty!

No stopping now...we still have more to do!!
We still need to visit the Exploration Center!!

Whew!  What an amazing adventure we had!

The song from Arlene's website is called, The Memory of Trees by Enya.  I thought it was only appropriate!
