First Graders found out that it doesn't matter what you look like on the outside, it is what's on the inside that counts! We read The Lonely Scarecrow written by Tim Preston, illustrated by Maggie Kneen.  It is a story of a scarecrow that is lonely because all of the animals in the field are afraid of him because he looks so scary.  Then one morning, a snowstorm disguises him as a snowman and the animals think he is a jolly snowman.  Once the snow melts, they realized it didn't matter what he looked like on the outside!  The scarecrow doesn't need to be lonely anymore. After reading the story, we each created our own "lonely scarecrow".
