Veteran's Day 2007

A special thank you to all veterans for making this a wonderful country to live in.  We also thank you for sharing your experiences with young students across the country on this day. We appreciate all you have done for us.  We are proud to be Americans!

The Flag Raising Ceremony

.
As the Assembly and Call to Colors was bugled by Briana, the Fairbury VFW Color Guard  raised the American flag.  We listened to the "National Anthem", said the Pledge of Allegiance, and then sang "You're a Grand Old Flag".

The History of the Flag

.

Freddie Drexler, a World War II veteran, spoke to the students about being a veteran and how lucky they are to be Americans.   Mr. Drexler showed the students some of the changes our country's flag has undergone. The flag has gone through 27 changes in all. During the presentation, Mr. Drexler explained that a star and a stripe were added each time a new state was admitted to the union. But it was decided when the flag got to 20 stars and 20 stripes that it was too much. The government decided to have 13 stripes for the 13 original colonies and a star for every state. He then pointed out to the students our current flag has 13 stripes and 50 stars.

Mystery Reader

.

Bryston's Dad came as a special Mystery Reader for our celebration day.  We had a lot of questions about his uniform!
