 Halloween Poetry

Ghosts and Goblins

Ghosts and goblins,
Ghosts and goblins,
Witches too,
Witches too,
All out trick-or-treating,
All out trick-or-treating,
Can’t scare you!
Can’t scare you!

Halloween Friend

Orange Mr. Pumpkinhead
The window frames your grin.
Long after I have gone to bed,
Your candle burns within.
I worked so hard to carve your mouth,
Those circles for your eyes.
And now you light this special night-
A Halloween surprise!

Jack-O-Lantern

Jack-o-lantern smiling bright,
Smiling bright, smiling bright.
Witches flying in the night
It is Halloween.

Ghosts and goblins
cats and bats,
Cats and bats, cats and bats.
Witches with their funny hats,
It is Halloween!

Spider, Spider

Spider hurrying,
Spider scurrying,
See her silken thread.
Spider hurrying,
Spider scurrying,
See her little web.

Sleeping Bats
(To the tune of  Frere Jacques)

Bats are sleeping,
Bats are sleeping,
Upside down,
Upside down,
Sleeping I the morning sun
Waiting for the night to come,
Then they’ll fly all around,
Then they’ll fly all around.

Little Bat

Small and furry, little bat,
fly through the sky at night.

Listen, listen, little bat
as echoes guide your flight.
Swoop and dive, little bat,
catch insects as you fly.

Hurry, hurry, little bat,
back to your nearby cave.
Snug and warm, little bat,
toes hold the ceiling light.
Sleepy, sleepy,
little bat,
wrapped in your wings until night.

I'm A Jack-o-lantern
(I'm a Little Teapot)

I'm a jack-o-lantern
fat and fine,
They picked me off a pumpkin vine.
Halloween is coming,
Don't you know?
Just light my candle
and watch me glow!

Have You Seen . . . ?
(sung to: The Muffin Man)

Have you seen the pumpkin man,
The pumpkin man, the pumpkin man,
Have you seen the pumpkin man,
Who lives in the pumpkin patch?

Have you seen the big black cat,
The big black cat, the big black cat,
Have you seen the big black cat,
Who lives in the dark alley?

Yes, we have, we've seen these things,
Seen these things, seen these things,
Yes, we have, we've seen these things,
We saw them on Halloween!

Monsters

There are monsters everywhere,
Monsters wandering in my hair,
Monsters on the corner stair,
Monsters in the rocking chair,
Monsters going up the wall,
Monsters that are very tall,
If I caught them in a bunch,
I'd have monster stew for lunch.

Spiders

Spiderlings hatch from eggs.
Each one has eight tiny legs.
A spider has more eyes that you.
Most have eight, and you have two.
A spider has two body parts.
Across its web it quickly darts.
From a spider’s spinnerets
Sticky spider silk jets.
Spiders feel the frantic tugs,
Of their favorite food; it’s bugs!

Spider Webs

The spider weaves a sticky web
To capture bugs to eat.
What keeps the spider’s sticky web
From sticking to her feet?
Spider Webs are very tricky
Because not all the strands are sticky.
Unlike the passing hapless fly,
The spider knows which strands are dry.
But if she accidentally stands
Upon one of the sticky strands,
She still would not get stuck, you see
Her oily body slides off free.

Witches Brew

*** Dead leaves, seaweed, rotten eggs, too.
(1. *** changes with lines below)

Stir them in my witches brew.
I've got magic - Alakazomakazoo!
Ooooo My witches brew
Ooooo What's it going to do to you?
Boo!

*** 2. Spider webs, moldy bread, mucky mud, too.
*** 3. Floor wax, thumb tacks, purple paint, too.
*** 4. Finger nails, lunch pails, apple cores, too.
*** 5. Wrinkled prunes, mushrooms, motor oil, too.

A Pumpkin Seed

A pumpkin seed's a little thing,
When it is planted in the spring.
But, oh, the fun that it can bring!

 At Halloween it turns into
A pumpkin pie for me and you,
Or jack-o'-lantern that says "Boo!"

Alice Crowell Hoffman

The Spider

Watch the busy spider,
He’s helpful as can be,
Eating insects all day long
Now they won’t bite me.

The Spider Poems

Spiders are not insects
Spiders have eight legs.
Spiders have four pairs of eyes
Spiders hatch from eggs!

Spider webs are sticky
Spiders weave them tight
Spiders spin that silky string
Spiders weave webs right!

Pumpkin Patch

Going to the pumpkin patch
Is so much fun.
There are so many pumpkins
To choose from.
We'll look and look
Until we find the right one
Going to the pumpkin patch
Is so much fun!
-Linda Zimmerman

I love your cute pumpkin smile,
And your little pumpkin frame.
Your teeny tiny pumpkin toes
And your sweet pumpkin name!
Yes, you're my favorite pumpkin
The cutest I could ever hope to see
And I will tell everyone that I meet
That the cutest pumpkin belongs to me!
-Thena Smith

You are my favorite pumpkin!
You are the cutest in the patch.
I love your little pumpkin nose
And pumpkin eyes that match!
-Thena Smith

Carving out memories, one pumpkin at a time.
-LaTourelle

On Halloween

Pumpkins on a fence post
With their eyes alight,
Bats and cats and hooty owls,
Witches all in flight,
Ghosts and goblins galloping
What a scary night!

Ghosts

I think I'll wear a sheet,
A big, white, ghostly sheet;
And go about on Halloween
To scare the folks I meet.

I'll be entirely covered up -
All white from head to feet,
And I don't think they'll ever guess
That I'm inside that sheet.
