March Poetry

Dear Old Nebraska U
March 1, 1867

There is no place like Nebraska,
Dear old Nebraska U;
Where the girls are the fairest,
The boys are the squarest
of any old school that I knew.
There is no place like Nebraska,
Where they’re all true blue.
We’ll all stick together
In all kinds of weather,
At dear old Nebraska U!
Go Big Red!

Five Little Leprechauns
By Margaret Allen

Five Little Leprechauns
Standing in a row.
One fell down
And hurt his toe.

Four little leprechauns
Climbing up a tree.
One slipped down
While spying on me!

Three little leprechauns
Dancing in the sun.
One sat down
And spoiled all the fun.

Two little leprechauns
Sing an Irish song.
One quit singing
Said they sang too long.

One little leprechaun
Guarding all the gold.
He fell asleep
So I was told.

 I crept to his cave
As he began to sno
re.
I snatched up the gold
A
nd ran out the door!

Hello Spring
(Goodnight Ladies)

Hello spring,
Hello spring,
Hello spring,
We hope you’re here to stay

replace the word “spring” with other spring words eg: green grass, robins, rainbow, flowers, butterflies, etc.

I’m a Little Leprechaun
(I’m A Little Teapot)

I’m a little leprechaun
Dressed in green,
The tiniest man
That you have ever seen.
If you ever catch me, so it’s told,
I’ll give you my pot of gold!

I’m an Irish Leprechaun
(I’m a Little Teapot)

I’m an Irish leprechaun,
Tiny and wee,
I hide in the forest,
Behind a tree.
If you ever catch me,
You will see
A wish will grant as quick as can be!

Itsy, Bitsy Leprechaun
(Itsy Bitsy Spider)

An itsy, bitsy leprechaun
Came out St. Patrick’s Day
To look for gold
That was hidden far away.
Over the rainbow
Was where he was told,
So, with a wink of his green eye,
He ran to get the gold!

Leprechaun Wishes

I keep three wishes handy,
In case I chance to meet
Any day a Leprechaun
Coming down the street.

March

March is an in between month,
When wintry winds are high.
But milder days remind us all,
Spring’s coming by and by.

St. Patrick's Day

Leprechauns peeking,
Around a willow tree,
Pussy willows waking,
Longing to be free.
Colleens and shamrocks
And castles old and gray,
Put them all together
To make St. Patrick's Day.

The Wearin' O' the Green

Today is the day fer the wearin' o' the green.
Today is the day when the little people are seen.
Today is St. Patrick's Day, so if ye'r Irish me lad,
Join the celebratin' fer the grandest time ta' be had.

Ya' put yer hand up in the air,
the other hand on your hip.
Ya' tap yer toe, ya' tap yer heel, y
a' bounce yer knee a wee bit.
Ya' prance 'n dance around the room,
n' circle one two three.
The saints be praised, I must admit,
ya' all look Irish ta' me.

March, We Know

Never mind March, we know
You’re not really mad
Or angry or bad.
You’re only blowing the winter away
To get the world ready
For April and may.

Michael Finnegan

There was a young man named Michael Finnegan,
He grew whiskers on his chinnegan,
The wind came up and blew them in again,
Poor, poor, Michael Finnegan.  Begin again!

There was a young man named Michael Finnegan,
He went fishing with a pin again,
Caught a fish and dropped it in again,
Poor, poor Michael Finnegan.  Begin again!

There was a young man named Michael Finnegan
He squawked up an awful din again,
Because of that he could not sing again,
Poor, poor Michael Finnegan.  CUT!

Springtime
(to the tune of “the muffin man”)

Springtime is garden time,
Garden time, garden time,
Get your spades and come outdoors,
Springtime is here!

Springtime is planting time,
Planting time, planting time,
Get your seeds and come outdoors,
Springtime is here!

Springtime is jumping time,
Jumping time, jumping time,
Get your ropes and come outdoors,
Springtime is here!

 Springtime is singing time,
Singing time, singing time,
Children sing a happy song,
Springtime is here!

St. Patrick’s Green
By Bertha E. Bush

Oh, I love to see the shamrocks
Boys wear March seventeen,
And I love the girls’ green ribbons,
And bits of evergreen;
For they stand for brave St. Patrick,
So fearless and so good-
Oh! The Irish ought to love him,
Just as everybody should!

Leprechaun

Leprechaun, leprechaun, fly across the sea
And fetch an emerald shamrock for you and me.
Do not bring a nettle or a thistle for a joke,
But bring an Irish shamrock, for we are Irish folk.
And you and I, my leprechaun,
will wear the shamrock gay,
And match it with and Irish smile upon St. Patrick's Day!

St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick came from Ireland
A country trimmed with green
It has the shamrocks and the pipes
Those leprechauns you've seen
Those leprechauns will trip you
You'll fall flat on your face
They'll tickle your nose and sour the milk
Then find a hiding place!

The Rainbow

I saw a rainbow
painting the sky
The colors were flying
ever so high

Red, orange, yellow,
green and then blue
Indigo next
and violet too

Showing the way
the story is told
to where you may find
a pot of gold !

Winds of March

Winds of March, we welcome you,
There is work for you to do.
Work and play and blow all day,
Blow the winter cold away.

Rainbow
(Up on the House Top)

First comes the rain cloud passing by
Dropping raindrops in my eyes
Then comes the sunshine up so high
Now a rainbow in the sky
Ho Ho Ho who wouldn't go, Ho Ho Ho who wouldn't go
Under the Rainbow, yessiree
Under the Rainbow with you and me.

I Can Sing A Rainbow

Red and Orange and Yellow and Green
Blue and Purple too....
I can sing a rainbow ....Sing a rainbow
And so can you.

Oh, Rainbow
(Oh, Christmas Tree)

Oh, rainbow, oh, rainbow,
How lovely are your colors.
Oh, rainbow, oh, rainbow,
How lovely are your colors.
Purple, red and orange, too,
Yellow, green and blue so true.
Oh, rainbow, oh, rainbow,
How lovely are your colors.

St. Patrick’s Day is Here
(Farmer in the Dell)

St. Patrick’s Day is here
St. Patrick’s Day is here
Let’s give a clap and dance a jig
St. Patrick’s Day is here.
St. Patrick's Day Song
(Mary Had a Little Lamb)

I'm looking for a leprechaun,
Leprechaun, leprechaun.
I'm looking for  a leprechaun.
Do you know where he's gone?

He wears a suit that's made of green,
Made of green, made of green.
He wears a suit that's made of green.
Do you know where he's gone?

He lives by a rainbow and hides his gold,
Hides his gold, hides his gold.
He lives by a rainbow and hides his gold.
Do you know where he's gone?

If you see a leprechaun,
Leprechaun, leprechaun.
If you see a leprechaun,
Please tell me where he's gone!
